In his fourth start of the 2020 season, Holyfield, a three-year-old son of Uncle Mo, battled for the win on the turf in the fourth race today at Woodbine.
It was visible on post-parade that trainer Catherine Day Phillips had Holyfield primed and ready for the $126,400 Maiden Allowance race for owners Kingfield Racing Stable Ltd., Roderick Ferguson and Anderson Farms Ontario Inc.
Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson skillfully relaxed Holyfield to pace the leaders in fourth position for the majority of 1-1/16 mile race. Positioned on the outside on the turn for home Holyfield battled for the lead and held off a late charge to finish by a head at the wire.
Bred in Ontario by Anderson Farms Ont. Inc. & Rod Ferguson Farms Ltd., the Queen’s Plate eligible, Holyfield, out of the Honour and Glory mare, Nadeshiko, was coming off of game fourth place finish in maiden special weight company on August 1 at Woodbine.
