After a delayed start to the 2021 Woodbine meet, it was Barilko that recorded the first win for the barn of Trainer Catherine Day Phillips on June 25, 2021.
Barilko lead the field wire to wire, duelling early with the race favourite down the backstretch in the 6 furlong, $15,000 Waiver Claiming event at Woodbine with a purse of $33,900. Holding on to the lead through the turn, the Ontario-bred gelding opened up his lead to 3 lengths in the stretch and at the wire under the guidance of Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson.
Bred by Anderson Farms Ontario Inc. & Godolphin, Barilko is owned by Anderson Farms in partnership with George Ledson and Scott Kelly.
This was the second win for the now four-year-old by Elusive Quality – Reason , by Quiet American who won his first start as a two-year-old at Woodbine. This win boasts his earnings to close to $76,000 lifetime.
