Three year-old Encierro made his fourth career start a winning one, breaking his maiden in impressive style for owners George Ledson, Willow Pond Stable and Anderson Farms Ontario Inc.
The Queen’s Plate nominated colt, trained by Catherine Day Phillips and bred by Anderson Farms Ontario Inc. & Marette Farrell was the winner of the inaugural Ontario Sales Graduate Maiden race at Woodbine taking on 13 colts and geldings for a purse of $95,000.
An Ontario-bred son of Pioneer of the Nile – Holy Eclair, Encierro was one of four in the race that are nominated for the Queen’s Plate.
Woodbine’s top jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva guided Encierro to the outside of the field on the turn for home and drew away to win by 5-1/4 lengths under a hand ride at the wire in the 1 -1/16 mile race on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course.
