Growing up in Brazil, Woodbine jockey Eurico Da Silva didn’t know very much about hockey. But he certainly knows what it feels like to be body checked. Hard.
On the eve of this year’s Breeders’ Cup world championships at Del Mar, Da Silva is looking forward to riding in thoroughbred racing’s premier event for the 10th time in his illustrious career when he takes the Catherine Day Phillips-trained Dixie Moon to the gate in $1,000,000 Juvenile Fillies Turf race on Friday, Nov.3.
But for all of his excitement, and the fact that Dixie Moon is in good form heading into the race, the Breeders’ Cup doesn’t always bring back a ton of good memories for Da Silva — Woodbine’s leading rider.
