Two Catherine Day Phillips runners recorded maiden breaking wins, in concession, winning the second and third races today at Woodbine.
Five year old mare, Veil, owned by Andrew Rosen, bred by his AR Enterprises, LLC, had been knocking at the door since arriving at Catherine Day Phillips barn. A daughter of Hat Trick (JPN) – Trophy Bride, by Broad Brush had finished second in her first two starts this season before her impressive front running win today by 5 1/2 lengths with Eurico Rosa da Silva in a Maiden Special Weight worth $61,000.
Three year-old filly, Eliza Jane, bred by Bernard & Karen McCormack, owned by their Cara Bloodstock and partners Braconcrest Inc. and Monty Wilson, took to the lead with Eurico Rosa da Silva and fended off challengers to win by 2 lengths on the turf in a $20,800 Maiden Claiming. This was the filly’s first win in 4 career starts under trainer Catherine Day Phillips.
