Two for Two for Millie Girl

Coming off of her maiden breaking win in her first career start on July 16, four-year-old Hard Spun filly, Millie Girl, made her second appearance in the winners’ enclosure today at Woodbine.

Stepping up to Allowance company in a seven furlong optional claiming event on the turf, Millie Girl went off as the favourite and sat waiting in second for most of race.

Jockey Declan Carroll asked for more on the turn for home and the Catherine Day Phillips trained filly responded and fended off a late challenge to win by 1-3/4 lengths at the wire.

Millie Girl is owned by Catherine Day Phillips’s Kingfield Racing Stable Ltd., Braconcrest Inc. and Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds and bred in Ontario by Sean Fitzhenry out of his Smart Strike mare Mendocino Beano.
