Barkin Impressive in Maiden Breaking Win

Willow Pond Stable’s homebred filly, Barkin, broke her maiden in style with an impressive win in the fifth race at Woodbine for trainer Catherine Day Phillips.

Placing in the first three starts of her career this year, the New York bred filly by Animal Kingdom sat at the back of the pack for most of the race.

Inching up the rail on the turn for home, Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson steered her to the centre and she exploded to the lead, racing to the wire to win by 6-3/4 lengths.

Bred by Willow Pond LLC, the 3 year-old filly, out of the Dynaformer mare, St. Malo’s Gate, had shown her talent with two close seconds and a third before today’s classy Maiden Special Weight win going 1-1/4 miles on the turf for $75,000.
